5_DEST_98732_73337Barcelona Design Festival aims to situate Barcelona as a world capital of design and innovation. This second edition includes the FADfest (26th June to 12th July), and Barcelona Design Week (1st to 5th October), linked by a host of activities, exhibitions, conferences and itineraries intended to help participants enjoy design in the city.

The Barcelona Design Festival is organised by the BCD (Barcelona Design Centre) and FAD (Fomento de las Artes y del Diseño) – two pioneering institutions in the promotion of design – and is sponsored by Barcelona City Council. The joint programme offers an extensive calendar of events, including exhibitions, awards, congresses, the Summer BCN Design Tour, an Ideas Design Market, a film cycle on cinema and design, entrepreneurship, debate and networking; in total there are over 50 activities intended to help bring design closer to the general public.

The first Barcelona Design Festival, held in 2011, saw more than 100,000 participants taking part in over a hundred activities.

BCN Design Week
The 7th Barcelona Design Week runs between 1st and 5th October; organised by the Barcelona Design Centre, this event has established itself in recent years as the key design and business event in Barcelona, and as one of the most important Design Weeks in the international calendar. Those interested in design as a tool for business innovation and competitiveness will also be able to attend the Design Congress 2020, with its workshops, networking opportunities and debates, the Ecodesign Day, and the second Guest Country symposium, which this year is Sweden, within the framework of the Barcelona Design Week. Participants in the 2012 event include businesses and experts of international renown who will be talking about interaction design, user experience, design and smart cities, eco design and social innovation, among other themes.
