The 11. DMY International Design Festival at the former airport Berlin Tempelhof from June 5 – 9, 2013
Berlin as a creative hotspot is steadily moving towards becoming one of the most important centres for contemporary design. The DMY festival has over the years managed to establish itself as the most important design festival in Germany, unique in its kind in terms of content and a meeting point for the design scene and trendsetter at the same time. More than 500 designers, studios, design institutions and leading colleges and universities gather at the annual DMY Festival.
Here are some of the highlights of this year´s festival:
The country focus Polen offers an extensive survey of the country´s current design landscape, focussing on interior and furniture design from Polish brands.
The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany: presention of this year´s submissions and announcement of nominees in the fields of product and communication design. Since 1969, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology has awarded the best in German Design. The award is considered to be the most important design award in Germany.
The exhibition within the exhibition REFUGIUM offers an overview of the vibrant Berlin design scene. REFUGIUM is initiated by Mapping the Design World and curated by Max Gorka.
The New Talents section will feature innovative design concepts by promising newcomers.
Open Talks: Makers and institutions invite to discussions and workshops. In the workshops, the focus will be on crowdfunding and 3D printing.
Kids corner – presented by Smart by VOX will feature design and furniture especially developed for kids.
On top, international design institutions will present futuristic city presentations as well as group exhibitions.
The wide spectrum of the DMY festival will include light and interior design, it will present new and old materials in a new context as well as visual design concepts and architecture. DMY Berlin which was founded in 2003 is an internationally renowned platform for contemporary product design working within an international network.
