The Fact: WDC Helsinki 2012 Breaks Tourism Records

28. august, 2012

helsinki_design_capitalThe tourists too are embracing WDC Helsinki 2012. The number of registered over night stays in hotels and hostels of Helsinki between January and May grew 3,5% compared with the previous year.

The corresponding figure of Vantaa is 4,5%, Lahti 3,0 % and in Espoo impressive 22,3%. The number of day visitors is also estimated to be rising. The tourists are particularly interested in the architecture, special shops and art. The biggest crowd pleasers in Helsinki have been the Kamppi Chapel of Silence, the Pavilion and the HI Design 2012 exhibition. In Espoo the exhibition center WeeGee has been the most popular place to visit whereas in Vantaa most popular places have been the Finnish Science Center Heureka and the Vantaa Art Museum. Lahti has offered a wide variety of events, even for the cyclists. The figures are expected to rise as the tourism season of Southern Finland, June-August, is seen through and the very eventful September of the Design Capita is over. Nice.
