WDC Helsinki 2012 events to continue in 2013

helsinki design capitalSome of the projects included in the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme will carry on even after the turn of the year. We will also see several of the year’s events continue into 2013.

EXHIBITIONS IN 2013

Among the WDC Helsinki 2012 programme’s exhibitions to continue in 2013 are Helsinki City Museum’s “Design in Helsinki Films”, which introduces visitors to the visual world of films made in Helsinki between the 1930s and the 1960s, and the Hakasalmi Villa exhibition delving into the roots of Finnish design, “Made in Helsinki 1700–2012”. “Design in Helsinki Films” continues until 13 January 2013 and “Made in Helsinki” until 1 September 2013.

Modern Finnish art will be showcased on transformer boxes on the Union Line in Helsinki until 2015.

A YEAR OF EVENTS: CONTINUED

The much-anticipated opening of the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia at the Nuuksio National Park in Espoo will be in spring 2013, and Kulttuurisauna, a culture sauna in Hakaniemenranta, Helsinki, will finally be open to bathers.

The University of Helsinki Think Corner programme will continue in January with the Night of the Sciences and the Alumni Weeks. See the full programme here and join in!

ONGOING PROJECTS

A large part of WDC Helsinki 2012 projects will continue beyond 2012 or leave behind a permanent legacy. If you haven’t already, you should check out the Kamppi Chapel of Silence and the Helsinki University Main Library, Kaisa HouseThe Abattoir’s Kellohalli  and Turn Table – The Urban Garden will also still be here in 2013. Visit the websites for the latest news. The international design competition for the Kruunusillat bridges in Helsinki will extend into 2013. The public will have a chance to see and comment on the finalists at an exhibition to be held at the Information and Exhibition Hall Laituri in February.

The outdoor fitness equipment put up as part of the “Get in Form” project will remain in place by the Töölönlahti Bay in Helsinki for everyone to use.
